How many sets? How long is each set? Longer sets usually have a higher pay rate because it requires the artist to dig deeper into their repertoire.
Is the musician you hired a beginner or a seasoned veteran? The more experienced the higher the pay rate. More on that below. Are you asking the artist to go above and beyond? If artists have to learn a new song you need to factor in rehearsal time. If they are a part of special moment take into account what it requires and compensate for it in their rate. The level of experience the musician has also factors into the overall rate they should be compensated.

As such they are perfect to entry level venues looking for new musicians. They do still need to be paid however. They are very talented musicians who take their craft seriously and may be studying music or have been performing for a long time. This Muso will be more costly than a beginner but will be happy to walk away with a couple of hundred for their time and effort.
This musician is a seasoned veteran and makes a living off their craft. They have been performing their whole lives and put on a great show. They will be very well prepared and aware of the process. This type of musician will expect a higher rate than your average performer, however it will be a worthwhile investment. Another factor of determining a fair rate for an artist would be the type of artist and size of their act.
I cannot stress strongly enough how little I welcome the prospect. No band — not Razorlight, not anyone — needs to be onstage for longer than 45 minutes. In most cases, half an hour would suffice. An exception might be made for Madonna and others who stage big, theatrical spectaculars - they'd be allowed an hour, but not a minute longer.
Bands should be thinking about quality, not quantity — they need do no more than get up there, play their eight or nine best songs and go away again. In their desire to give value for money, bands have forgotten how to leave a crowd wanting more. The Ramones, whose early sets lasted 15 breathless minutes, had the right idea — they aimed to make an impact and then disappear before the audience knew what had hit them.
Even at the height of their career, their shows lasted less than an hour. Or as long as an hour for someone who is better known but perhaps not yet deserving of legend status. Shorter sets like these are also often combined. For instance, a well-known artist who plans on playing for about an hour might ask a lesser known artist to open for them, and the opener might play for as short as 20 minutes or as long as All combined, this could make the entire concert last two or even three hours, depending on how many groups play, how long each plays for, and how long the breaks are.
Well-known artists and those who have truly achieved legend status will typically play for much longer; 90 minutes or even a couple of hours. Once again, the deciding factor tends to be how much music the group has put out, combined with how long fans are willing to listen without losing interest.
Really well-known artists tend to be able to get away with longer concert times!
